As a technology transfer company affiliated with the University of Waterloo, Pattern Discovery Technologies enjoys an advantageous relationship with the University's PAMI lab that allows us unparalleled access to "ground floor" research and development. Pattern Discovery Technologies supports this research through Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) contributions.
Our founders maintain close connections with the university by providing mentoring services to students affiliated with the PAMI lab. We are a strong supporter of the Co-operative Education program.
PDT participates in the NRC Industrial Research Assistance Program (NRC-IRAP) which provides a range of both technical and business oriented advisory services along with financial support to growth-oriented Canadian small and medium-sized enterprises. NRC-IRAP supports innovative research and development and commercialization of new products and services.
PDT is involved in the Scientific Research and Experimental Development (SR&ED) program. This federal tax incentive program encourages Canadian businesses of all sizes and in all sectors to conduct research and development (R&D) in Canada that will lead to new, improved, or technologically advanced products or processes. The SR&ED program is the largest single source of federal government support for industrial research and development. Through this program PDT is able to remain on the cutting edge of research in data mining and analysis.
PDT is also an industrial partner in the LORNET (Learning Objects Repository Network) project. The Lornet project is founded on a partnership between 6 universities as well as a number of industrial partners. The main goal of LORNET is to build new knowledge in computer and cognitive science to help design and develop the architectures, the tools and the methods in a network of learning objects repositories to maximize its usefulness and efficiency for education and training on the Web.Learning object repositories are used to make documents, tools and Web services available for learning and knowledge management.
In addition, PDT's Technical Advisory Council members are key players in research teams at York University in Toronto, University of Waterloo and Hong Kong Polytechnic University.
